OSPMA Scholarships

2008 Scholarship Program

Our goal:   It is our goal to help you continue your professional education through course work or certification. The OSPMA Board, by the end of each calendar year, allocates any funds available to the OSPMA scholarship program for the following calendar year. These funds are distributed to OSPMA members that apply for them and meet the general requirements for disbursement as listed below.

Who we are:   The OSPMA Scholarship Committee is a standing committee appointed by the OSPMA board in accordance with its by-laws. That committee is comprised of six members and a chair.

The six committee members are OSPMA general members. They are appointed by the Board for a term of three calendar years. Their expiration dates are staggered so as to maximize committee continuity and minimize annual turnover. Committee appointment(s) are made annually before the committee’s February meeting. Committee members may be reappointed.

OSPMA members are committed to make the dream of higher education and/or professional certification a reality for as many OSPMA members as possible. In 2008, we have dedicated $5,000 to scholarship and certification programs that help motivated students reach their goals. We’re proud to have been providing scholarship opportunities for several years, and the future has never looked brighter.

There is no better type of financial aid than the kind that students don’t have to pay back. That’s why OSPMA sponsors scholarship programs that help students succeed.

OSPMA Scholarship Programs 2008
This year, OSPMA will be awarding $5,000 in scholarships directly to students through our scholarship programs. Below are the programs we have planned for 2008.

  1. Reimbursement for professional certification, either from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or the International Personnel Management Society (IPMA).

  2. Reimbursement for college course work (defined as “a certificate or education relevant to HR deemed eligible by the scholarship committee”) at an eligible institution (defined as “any 2- or 4-year, public or private, non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States”).

Scholarship Eligibility:

Any general OSPMA member in good standing may apply for scholarship funds.

Scholarship Coverage/Limitations:

In the case of professional certification, up to 50% of the applicant’s “out of pocket” costs for an examination fee may be reimbursed.

In the case of college course work, up to 50% of the applicant’s “out of pocket” costs for tuition and fees may be reimbursed.

Costs for books and study guides will not be reimbursed.

To document “out of pocket” costs, the applicant must show that they have applied for – and received or been denied – agency educational funds to the extent that such funds are available in their agency or department. A maximum of 50% of any remaining, non-reimbursed (“out of pocket”) expenditures are eligible for reimbursement from the OSPMA scholarship fund.

Successful Completion:

In order to receive reimbursement, an applicant must demonstrate successful completion of the certification or course of study (“pass” or “C” or better).

Scholarship Application Process:

All applicants will be required to complete the OSPMA scholarship application form and submit it to:
